    1. What were the "aha" moments for you in this article? What did you learn?
After reading the two articles I believe that many of our boys just need to find something that they are good at to feel good about themselves. The B2M frat sounds like a lot of positive reinforcement and a lot of promoting behavior which the boys can easily succeed in. Many of us take for granted the education we received from our fathers and I believe that this is taking the place of that father figure in many of the cases.
I don’t want to make assumptions but I feel that many of our boys try to grow up so fast because they do not have a leader in their lives. They seek that leader figure out and many times that leader is a gang member. B2M replaces the gang with a positive educational system.

    2. How can these learnings be applied in your classroom or in our school?
Our male population is so low and so many of them are already in afterschool activities it may be easy to begin a B2M (or similar) club in our school. So many of our young males look for success and too many of them find it performing illegal actions. Just recently one of our past students, a student we all know as an amazingly bright student, was arrested and posted all over the news. What if he would have had a group of peers and adults to talk to and organize events with other then the local gangs – where would he be now? In jail? Could this be a good stepping stone for us to begin a proactive mentoring program?

  2. Deb says....I would like to see our "mentoring" move from a study hall/ tutoring to a true mentoring period. The B2M model would be a great one for us to follow.

    1. What were the "aha" moments for you in this article? What did you learn?
The "aha" moment for me was the realization that encouragement and praise do help develop a sense of pride in oneself that motivates them to learn and grow. Sometimes we minimize the impact we can have on our students, especially the male students by just giving a bit of encouragement and providing them with a little sucess. This success can work miracles toward their own self esteem and this in turn can improve their own internal motivation to strive and achieve as demonstrated by the young men in the article.

    2. How can these learnings be applied in your classroom or in our school?
It's hard to imagine the sheer power of our words and the effect they have on our students. I'm really going to make a concerted effort to try to reach the young men in our classes in an effort to help their motivation toward their studies.
